The Granard Youthreach Programme commenced
operation in September 2002 and welcomed its
first intake of students on Wednesday 27 November
2002. The centre is based in Main Street Granard,
and was initiated in response to locally identified
needs in the town and surrounding area. The
programme currently caters for a maximum of
25 students both male and female between 15
and 20 years of age.
Mission Statement
To create a mutually respectful and safe environment
where young people are empowered to take responsibility
for their learning, behaviour and actions
and allow them to maximise their potential
and opportunities in the wider community.
Student Population
The centre is approved to cater for 25 participants.
Curriculum
Junior Certificate at all levels.
FETAC, Information Technology (ECDL), Hairdressing,
Woodwork, Art / Crafts.
Learning Support
Psychological Services
Counselling Services
Remedial Services
Extra Curricular
Activities
Sport: Football, Soccer, Fishing,
Nature Treks, Pool, Basketball, Pitch &
Putt, Outdoor Pursuits.
Cultural activities: Wood Carving,
Music, Art, Photography, CD Recording sessions.
Health Related Modules run in
conjunction with the Midland Health Board
and the "Copping On" Programme
Educational Trips : Clonmacnoise,
Corlea Bog Interpretative Centre, The National
Museum of Modern Art, Newgrange Interpretative
Centre, Roscommon Civic Amenity Centre, St
Patricks Institute for Young Offenders,
Zoological Gardens.
Involvement with
Community / Local Industry
Work experience for trainees
Hosted a Photographic Exhibition and produced
a Calendar based on the Granard Area.
The Youthreach building also facilitates the
Back to Education Initiative on two
nights per week for people from the locality.
Longford Women's group have also availed of
the Granard Youthreach facilities.
Visiting speakers included personnel from:
Longford VEC, Midland Health Board, Juvenile
Liaison Officer, Money Advisory Budgeting
Services, National Youthreach Co-ordinator.
Staff In-Service
This is available to all staff and is actively
encouraged and supported. |
