Co Longford Vocational Education Committee (VEC) is one of 33 such committees established under the VEC Act (1930) and the Amendment Acts of 1936, 1944, 1970 and 2001. The role of VECs is defined in section 9 of the VEC Amendment Act (2001) as that of providing a range of educational services, which are approved, financed and regulated by the Department of Education & Science. This remit includes the provision of post primary, second chance, adult and further education together with educational support services.

 

 
Composition of Co. Longford VEC
Co Longford VEC is constituted in accordance with the requirements of the VEC (Amendment) Act 2001 and its membership is as follows:
  • nine members of Longford County Council
  • two members of Longford Town Council
  • two elected parent representatives
  • two elected staff representatives
  • four community representatives from voluntary, community, employer and other organisations appointed by Longford County Council after consultation with the core group

The mission and core values of Co Longford VEC
The mission of Co Longford VEC is to seek to enhance the lives of all people in our community through quality educational programmes for second level and adult learners in a spirit that is respectful of diversity, equality, individuality, justice and personal endeavour. Our vision is of a future where students of all ages enjoy learning and use it to understand, cope with and shape their changing and complex world.

Education Plan 2006-2010
The Education Plan for 2006-2010 sets out the five year education plan for Co Longford Vocational Education Committee, which was prepared in consultation with the VEC's various stakeholders in the period between May and December 2005.
